Independence and Confidence Despite Persisting Barriers

We recently caught up with Sunita for an update on how her new electric wheelchair (funded by you, our wonderful supporters) has enhanced her independence.

Having achieved a remarkable grade “A” in her Secondary Education Examination (SEE), Sunita embarked on the next stage of her journey, enrolling in college to study Business Studies and moving into a student hostel.

She explained to us how inadequate infrastructure on the route to her college has impeded the use of her new chair at college (highlighting the extensive improvements to infrastructure which are still needed in Nepal to optimise accessibility in the country), but how the new technology has significantly improved her independence and confidence.

Sunita told us:

“I am very happy to write to you. Thank you from my heart for all your love and support. I am doing well and enjoying my college life. I am studying Business Studies in +2, first year. I like learning new things and I always try my best in my studies. It makes me feel proud to be in college, and I am very thankful for this opportunity.

I also want to share about my new electric wheelchair. This is my first time using such a wheelchair, and I am still learning how to drive it properly. I feel excited while using it. Because the road to college is not good, I cannot take it there yet, but I am using it around my hostel and the Hope Centre. It gives me more freedom and confidence. Before, I needed help for many things, but now I can do more on my own. Your support has made a big change in my life, and I feel very lucky to have your love and kindness.

With love and Namaste,

Sunita”

We wish Sunita all the best in mastering her new electric wheelchair, and hope she can benefit from its full potential at college soon.
