As more lucrative locations begin to become the destinations of Nepali people with a higher education and more valuable skill-sets, a phenomenon known as “brain drain” is beginning to be observed in Nepal. Brain drain sees these skilled professionals relocate to these countries in search of better job opportunities and living conditions, often resulting in a shortage of talented individuals in Nepal and ultimately having a negative impact on the country’s development and economic growth. This phenomenon is driven by political instability, a poor job market, and low salaries in Nepal, as well as poor working conditions and a lack of job security, and has accelerated in recent years due to a more interconnected and accessible international labour market. This phenomenon is becoming especially common in the field of medicine, where a lack of medical equipment and job satisfaction in Nepal is driving professionals and students to countries such as the USA, the UK, Canada, and Australia for employment or to get a high quality education.
