Education is beginning to emerge as a more significant driver of international migration in Nepal. Temporary employment however, has long been the dominating driving force. Young working-aged individuals experience a disproportionately high unemployment rate, with the 2023 Nepal Living Standard Survey (NLSS IV) showing that nearly 25% of 15-24 year olds were unemployed, with 35.7% not in employment, education, or training (Nepal Statistics Office, forthcoming).
