Building a New Future of Independence through Empowerment - Sajan Joins the Hope Centre Family

At New Futures Nepal we are dedicated to providing opportunity and empowering the children and young adults we support to live independent and rich lives.

When young adults within the Hope Centre family move on to further education or begin their careers, it represents the embodiment of our vision to provide opportunities and means for those facing hardship to better their lives. It is therefore always a proud time for us.

When young adults move on from the Hope Centre, it also allows us to welcome new children. With several individuals moving on from the Centre, we were recently able to welcome Sajan to the Hope Centre family.

Sajan, who was born in Suspachyamawati village located in the Dolakha district of Nepal, is nine years old and was born with a gait abnormality.

House Manager of the Hope Centre - Tilak Shrestha gave us an update on Sajan’s story and early experiences at the home:

“From a young age, Sajan faced many challenges. His story is filled with hardship and sorrow. Left helpless and poor, he had no control over the life that unfolded around him. For a time, he was cared for by some relatives and neighbours, but as he grew older, it became increasingly difficult for them to meet his needs. They did their best, but were unable to provide long-term support. Recognising this, the village municipality, on behalf of the local community, proposed Sajan’s case to the Disabled Welfare Association Hope Centre, seeking a more secure and stable future for him. After following our intake procedures and child admission policy (the process took a few months) Sajan was eventually welcomed as a new member of the Hope Centre.

According to Sajan, during his first visit, he felt very nervous and worried—not only about his future, but also about leaving behind his village and childhood friends. However, after meeting the team and other children at the Hope Centre, he slowly began to feel relaxed and hopeful. He started to believe that life could change in a positive way and that he could move forward with renewed strength.

During his first week, Sajan was extremely shy and quiet. He barely spoke and simply smiled in response to most interactions. Communication was difficult at first, but with time, patience, and care, he adjusted well to the new environment. Today, Sajan is a happy and cooperative child who interacts warmly with everyone around him.

Before joining the Hope Centre, Sajan was already a primary school student in his village. Now, he has enrolled at Himshrinkhala Academy School in Nayapati, where many of our other children also go for their education.

On his first day at the new school, he was both excited and nervous. But his enthusiasm for learning soon outweighed his fears. He quickly adapted and started enjoying his time with teachers and classmates.

According to his class teachers;

“Sajan is good at his studies. He picks up new skills very quickly and is always eager to learn.”

We can’t wait to see what endeavours and successes are to come for Sajan, and wish him all the best for the future!
