World record holding double-amputee Everest summiter Hari Budha Magar visits Hope Centre

Nirmala Bhandari joined Hope Centre manager Tilak Shrestha in blessing Hari Budha Magar for his inspirational achievement in summiting Mount Everest and raising awareness of disability in Nepal and across the globe.

On 30th May 2023, mountaineer Hari Budha Magar and his team visited the Hope Centre.

Hari lost both his legs in 2010 to an IED in Afghanistan while serving with the Royal Ghurka Rifles.

Hari became the first above knee amputee to summit Mount Everest on 19th May 2023. He is a passionate advocate for disability awareness both in Nepal and Globally, and joined former Hope Centre Family member (who has aligning goals) Nirmala Bhandari to talk to the children at the centre about his World record breaking expedition and the importance of pursuing your dreams in the face of adversity.

New Futures Nepal are extremely grateful to Hari and his team for taking time out of their busy schedules to make this inspirational visit, and we are sure the experience has given the children the confidence to follow dreams of their own.

Hari Magar is a shining example of what can be achieved even in adversity, and will be pivotal in changing perceptions of what is possible with a disability in Nepal.

The Hope Centre children were in awe of Hari and listened intently to his experience of climbing Mount Everest and his advise on following their dreams.
